Sylwia Żytyńska

Sylwia Żytyńska was born in Warsaw and studied the piano, cello and percussion in Poland and Switzerland. She was a regular member of “Ensemble 13” in Karlsruhe for more than ten years, and performed numerous concerts as a duo with the violinist Egidius Streiff and with the quartet “e-motion”. For the last fifteen years, she has worked intensively on improvisation as part of the trio “selbdritt”. In 1991, her particular interest in musical theatre, new music and performances led her to the “Neue Musik Rümlingen” festival, where she has since been a member of the programme team. Sylwia Żytyńska has taught the drums at the Musik AkademieBasel since 1985.

For around a decade she has appeared with Thomas Adank and Thomas Meyer on the Swiss radio SRF2 Kultur programme “Musik unserer Zeit”, discussing the latest contemporary music CD releases. She is the co-founder and artistic director of the music education association Zuhören Schweiz. Sylwia Zytynskahas received awards including the Culture Prize of the Alexander Clavel Foundation, the Lily Wäckerlin Prize for “Youth and Music” and the PriCülTür Prize from the ProgrammZeitungculture magazine in Basel.
