Koichi Shimizu
Koichi Shimizu is a Japanese electronic music producer, composer, sound engineer, and sound artist. For over two decades, he has been working at the intersection of experimental music, techno, and audiovisual arts. Born in Yamanashi and based in Bangkok since 2004, Shimizu has played a key role in shaping the independent sound scene of Southeast Asia.
His work merges meticulously constructed rhythmic structures with raw sonic textures, processed field recordings, and deep emotional undercurrents. Shimizu’s practice spans from intense club sets to immersive sound installations, performance projects, and film soundtracks. He has collaborated with acclaimed filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
As the founder of the SO::ON Dry FLOWER label, he has long supported the development of local sound artists and created platforms for sonic experimentation beyond fixed genres. His appearance at Sanatorium of Sound offers a unique encounter with an artist for whom sound is both a medium of exploration and a form of radical presence.
