Daniel Muzyczuk

Daniel Muzyczuk is Director of the Museum of Art in Łódź, as well as an art historian, critic and curator. His work focuses on the history of art in Central and Eastern Europe, with particular emphasis on the relationships between visual art, experimental music and sound culture. For many years he has researched avant-garde and neo-avant-garde practices, the history of the Polish Radio Experimental Studio, and the intersections of musical experimentation, performance, technology and the visual arts. Another key area of his research is the history of counterculture and the underground in Eastern Europe, explored through the lens of social, political and cultural transformation. In his curatorial practice, he approaches the exhibition as a research tool, enabling new interpretations of history and opening alternative ways of understanding the relationships between art, music and visual culture.

His curatorial projects include Long Gone by Susan Philipsz; We Went to Croatan (with Robert Rumas); The Melancholy of Resistance (with Agnieszka Pindera); Views 2011; Sounding the Body Electric: Experiments in Art and Music in Eastern Europe 1957–1984 (with David Crowley); Notes from the Underground: Alternative Art and Music in Eastern Europe 1968–1994 (with David Crowley); Museum of Rhythm (with Natasha Ginwala); Through the Soundproof Curtain: The Polish Radio Experimental Studio (with Michał Mendyk); and Work, Work, Work (Work): Céline Condorelli and Wendelien van Oldenborgh (with Joanna Sokołowska). He also curated the Polish Pavilion at the 55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. He is the author of The Twilight of the Magicians (Krytyka Polityczna, 2025).
