Jan Krtička
Jan Krtička is a Czech sound artist whose work focuses on the relationship between landscape and human intervention in nature. His projects combine a conceptual approach with sound installations, exploring acoustic elements of the environment and using controlled chance. His works often examine the tension between nature’s organic diversity and human impact.
In 2019, he was the main coordinator of the international conference Murmurans Mundus: Sonic Ecology and Beyond, dedicated to acoustic ecology and its ties to art, design, music, and education. Along with Pavel Mrkus, he co-edited the monograph Sound and Environment: Contemporary Approaches to Sonic Ecology in Art, which explores trends in European sound art.
In addition to gallery installations, Krtička performs live, revealing the hidden sonic layers of spaces. One of his most notable projects is the semi-improvised performance Spolchemie Broadcast, based on field recordings from a chemical plant in Ústí nad Labem. It incorporates radio feedback and shortwave broadcasting, treating radio signals as instruments.
