Zbigniew Karkowski Form and Disposition (2008/2022)

Form and Disposition is an Ambient-Noise solo-drumming piece composed by Zbigniew Karkowski in 2008 – an exceptional and unique figure in experimental music. Though never notated, the piece has survived thanks to live performances by Daniel Buess (in its original version, and until 2016) and Joao Pacheco (2016). It was reconstructed, and also to say rearranged, to a new version – „digital processing” – by percussionist Aleksander Wnuk and composer Piotr Peszat, as a project commissioned by Sacrum Profanum Festival 2022 in Krakow. This one-of-a-kind challenge was taken with a great amount of daring and hope that this interpretation will give a new voice and perspective to Zbigniew Karkowski’s fantastic musical language. And that it will preserve the extremely physical nature of his music.
