VRANG (Nora Klungresæter & Susanne Xin)
A duo from Oslo, exploring the possibilities of the piano - preparing it and combining its sound with field recordings, reaching for movement and slam poetry.
Oslo-based piano-duo consisting of Nora Klungresæter and Susanne Xin. Their music combines electronic elements such as field recordings with contemporary use of the acoustic piano and grand piano, including preparation of the instruments. This experiment often takes place in an interdisciplinary collaboration with other artists, specialising in movement and slam poetry. Their art has a vulnerable, flowy nature, where different textures meet, and it is often inspired by collected memories, specific topics, themes, or through sound exploring itself. For the Sanatorium of Sound Festival they will perform as a duo with newly composed music.
The piano was once almost a holy instrument. It was only in the 20th century that it was dared to open it up, produce less conventional sounds and even be treated as a percussion. Klungresæter and Xin bravely make use of these advances, while still retaining much tenderness and sensitivity to the irreverent keyboard. They run preparation and other contemporary techniques through the filter of their experience, which leads us to believe that the sound performance they plan to present in the Sokołowsko space will be truly unique.
