Orsolya Kaincz is a Budapest-based sound artist working at the intersection of experimental composition and artistic research. Largely self-taught, she has developed a distinctive approach to sound grounded in free improvisation, electroacoustic experimentation, and open, conceptual modes of composition.

Her practice treats sound as a sculptural material. Working through relationships between timbre, texture, and microstructures, she creates perceptual situations that unfold between structure and indeterminacy. The act of listening itself occupies a central place in her work, which seeks to cultivate attentive, contemplative modes of perception in which the listener’s focus becomes an integral part of the compositional process.

Kaincz is a member of Trio FoCC, an ensemble dedicated to unconditional improvisation and experimental process-based music. She has collaborated with composers including Phill Niblock, Peter Ablinger, Nikolaus Gerszewski, Christoph Herndler, and Ulrich Krieger, developing a practice that moves fluidly between improvisation, composition, and critical reflection on listening as both artistic method and mode of inquiry.

Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a curator and producer of international cultural projects, collaborating with initiatives such as the Transparent Sound Festival in Budapest. She is also the initiator and coordinator of Listening as Method, a transdisciplinary platform investigating listening as an epistemological, artistic, and political practice.
